App lets you compare digital camera sizes

CameraSize.com is a great website that lets you compare digital camera sizes side-by-side. The online comparison tool is free and was designed to compare one camera’s size relative to another, and to view each camera from different sides. You can check the length measurement units in either millimeters or inches.

Textual explanation

After each selection of cameras, you’ll be presented with a textual explanation about how the two cameras differ. You’ll know how wider, larger and heavier the cameras is compared to the second one.

The site is continuously updated with new models, so you can compare the size of older cameras with the latest models. While the site owners admit that the comparison tool is not 100% accurate, it is very close and very useful, especially to those who plan to purchase a camera online and can’t hold it in their hand before buying.

Different Side Views and Colors

Besides being able to view each camera from various sides, you can visualize its height, width and depth. You also have the option of making cameras overlap each other, making it easy to visualize even small differences in size. And for cameras that come in a variety of colors, camerasize.com allows you to compare a camera in different colors.

Compare a digital camera to an average adult’s hand

Hand overly

This hand overlay gives you good view of the relative size of a digital camera.

A very useful feature is the overlay image of an average adult size hand. You can drag it around freely and position it below the camera. This gives you a good view of the relative size of the camera, a great way to see how compact or bulky the camera is in a human hand.

Type in full camera name

When using this app, make sure you type in the full name of a camera. I recently compared my Canon S100 with the Canon G7 X. Until I typed in the word Powershot, neither camera appeared in the drop down list (eg. Canon Powershot G7 X).
